D. Rontsis: Involuta Septempunctata, trio for soprano, oboe and harp, World Premiere at Wigmore Hall
Composed by Dimitrios Rontsis (b. 1989) based on a text by Klara Kofen
Premiered as part of the Voiceworks series at Wigmore Hall, London (UK) on the 7th June 2018.
"The Dinocampus Coccinella - a wasp - is a brood parasite which preys upon ladybirds, laying its egg inside the unsuspecting bug. In seven parts, this piece depicts, from the perspective of the ladybird, the events which follow from the initial planting.
Chemical changes to the ladybird's nervous system transform the host into an affectionate mother, and so the deluded ladybird lovingly lulls her baby, while the latter enjoys a safe incubation in its protective cocoon, next to the surrogate's body. Once the wasp lava has fully developed, the ladybird, now an abandoned mother, realises her folly. " Dimitrios Rontsis, composer
